This Thursday sees an entertaining Group D match with Sweden’s Hammarby IF taking on Manchester City in round 4 of the group stages in the Women's UEFA Champions League. The game takes place in Hammarby's Avicii Arena in Stockholm with the home fans set to be in wonderful spirit as always.
Man City will be without one of their star players Lauren Hemp, as the club announced she underwent successful knee surgery earlier this week, with the club adding that she will return to the facilities to work closely with the rehabilitation team.
Gareth Taylor is predicted to go with a similar team from their loss to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge last Sunday with Yamashita in goal, joined with the likes of Alex Greenwood and Casparij in defence, along with a presumed midfield containing Jess park with finally Bunny Shaw fulfilling the strikers role up top. Martin Sjögren’s Hammarby are also set to be a moderately similar side compared to their 2-0 loss away to man city on the 12 of November with the likes of Tamminem, Andersson, Joramo and Tandberg all keeping their spots in the lineup.
Hammarby sit at 3rd in the Damallsvenskan Swedish table with 61 pts and are undefeated in the last 5 games in the league. Manchester City also sit third in their retrospective league table, the WSL, on 19 points, trailing three points behind London rivals Chelsea.
Manchester City top Group D, with three wins out of three. City got their campaign underway with a dominant victory over current title holders Barcelona, followed by a victory over St. Pölten. Their winning streak was then added to when both sides played the reverse of today's fixture, as City secured a 2-0 win at home against Hammarby IF.
Hammarby are 3rd in Group D, as they opened their campaign with a win over St. Pölten. However, Barcelona then hosted the Swedish side, thrashing them with a 9-0 victory, before facing Manchester City away.
Kick off is at 5.30pm GMT with tickets for Thursday's Game still on sale on both club websites. This fixture can be watched live on DAZN Women's Football Youtube Channel with coverage starting around 5.25pm.
