Chelsea v Celtic FC - Match Preview

Chelsea welcome Celtic to Stamford Bridge in the UEFA Women’s Champions league on Wednesday the 20th of November, with kick-off scheduled for 20:00 GMT.

Last week, Sonia Bompastor’s side made the trip to Glasgow where they faced Celtic in their third group stage game. The final score saw the home side Celtic lose 1-2 with the first goal of the game coming from Celtic’s Agnew, followed by Hamano and Lawrence securing the win for Chelsea.

After the weekend just gone, the two teams are coming into this game with different experiences. For Chelsea, they faced title rivals Manchester City and beat them 2-0 at Stamford Bridge on Saturday night with goals from Ramirez and Reiten. Celtic however, faced their Glasgow rivals Rangers and were defeated 2-3.

Hosts Chelsea, currently sit top of Group B with three matches played, three wins and nine points. Celtic however, find themselves at the bottom of the table with three games played and three defeats against Chelsea, Real Madrid and FC Twente.

Celtic received positive praise from Sonia Bompastor in her press conference ahead of this game. Bompastor stated that she was “Not surprised about the opposition, they showed in the game last week that they fight really hard.”

The Chelsea manager believes that Celtic will arrive at Stamford Bridge with the same team spirit and will want to prove they have a good side. Bompastor stated that her Chelsea side are “ready for that.”

The game is set to be an exciting one under the Stamford Bridge lights. Celtic performed well at their home last week and it will be interesting to see how this game plays out.
