Aitana Bonmati has extended her contract with FC Barcelona until 2028.
Barcelona took to their social media platforms this morning to share the news after the Spain International turned down a release clause of €3 million by Women’s Super League champions Chelsea, which would have made her the most expensive signing in the history of women's football.
After joining the club in 2011, Bonmati has made 274 appearances for Barcelona since her senior team debut in 2016, and has scored 97 goals.
In her time at Barcelona, Aitana Bonmati has won 6 Spanish Cups, 4 Catalunya Cups, 4 League Cups, 3 Spanish Super Cups and 3 UEFA Champions Leagues.
She has also become a World Champion with Spain and also won the Ballon d'Or.
According to ESPN, the midfielder is now the highest-paid women's footballer, earning an excess of €600,000.
Excited about this one, Culers?
