Oona Siren signs for West Ham

The 23-year-old Finland international has become Rehanne Skinners eighth summer signing, signing a two-year contract in East London with the Hammers.

Siren previously played for Norwegian side LSK Kvinner where she made 19 appearances in the top division of Norwegian women’s football, providing four assists.

Before joining the Norwegian side, the midfielder played for Finnish top division sides Tikkurila Palloseura and Kuopio Palloseura where she won the Kansallinen Liiga titles in both 2022 and 2023, also appearing in the UEFA Women’s Champions League qualifying rounds on six occasions.

At previous club, LSK Kvinner, Oona played alongside ex West Ham player Thea Kyvåg who departed the east London club in January 2023 after joining in August 2022, making 12 appearances.

On the international stage, Siren has represented Finland a total of 14 times since making her senior debut in April 2023 against Slovakia. She was part of the squad that beat Scotland on penalties to win the 2024 Pinatar Cup earlier this year and has also featured in the UEFA Women’s National League.

Oona Siren has become the first Finnish women’s player to play in the claret and blue, and the fifth Finnish player to play in the claret and blue over the mens and women’s teams.

Despite her young age, Siren has made over 150 appearances in the top divisions of Finland and Norway.

Siren is ready for a new challenge, joining the English Leagues for the first time this season. After sealing her move to West Ham United, Siren said “It feels amazing to be here.

"I am looking forward to the challenge of playing in England.

"I know the Barclays Women’s Super League is the best league in the world and I want to test myself against the best players and the best teams."
