18 year old Poppy Pritchard signed for Manchester City on deadline day of the winter transfer window. She is yet to make an appearance for City, however has appeared on the bench 8 times. She joins Palace on a season long loan.
Pritchard previously played for Durham, scoring 2 goals in 17 appearances for the club. She has also made 13 appearances for England U-19s, scoring a total of 13 goals, as well as scoring on her debut where they beat Denmark 5-0. She has appeared for Durham U21s, helping the club become the first team to beat Manchester United’s U21s. She scored a total of 18 goals for the U21s.
The forward becomes Palace’s 12th signing of the season, following Brooke Aspin on loan from Chelsea, and Welsh international Josie Green from Leicester City. She also sparked interest from Tottenham Hotspur.
Despite not appearing for the team, Pritchard finished second with Manchester City during the 23/24 season, with the club scoring 61 total goals, only conceding 15. They racked up a total of 55 points, placing second on goal difference, Chelsea having +53, City just falling short with +46. Bunny Shaw and Khiara Keating took home the Golden Boot and the Golden Glove respectively.
In Pritchard's two seasons at Durham, the club placed 7th and 9th in the Championship, exiting the FA cup and Continental Tyres cup (league cup) in the early stages.
She joins recently promoted Crystal Palace, who make their first ever appearance in the Women’s Super League. The club play most of their matches at VBS Community Stadium in Sutton, as well as select matches at the clubs stadium Selhurst Park.
Pritchard spoke on the clubs website, and said she is ‘super excited to be here, and can’t wait for the season to start’.
Palace play their opening match against Tottenham Hotspur, which will take place at Gaughan Group Stadium on September 22nd.
