Sunday afternoon marks the return of the highly anticipated East Midlands Derby between Nottingham Forest and Derby County in the FA Women’s National League.
Nottingham Forest come into the clash with a high profile, as they are yet to be defeated after eight games, clenching onto the prime spot within the table.
Derby County currently sit ninth in the table, after a recent defeat to Burnley saw them drop two points below Hull City.
For their last outing, Nottingham Forest returned to the City Ground to claim an 8-0 victory over Halifax FC. The game was filled with plenty of action, with six different goal-scorers and Casey Howe earning her debut goal in the Garibaldi.
When reflecting on last weekend’s performance, Carly Davies said: “I wasn’t particularly pleased with the first half performance, I don’t think we moved the ball with an intensity and a purpose. But, with that being said, we created three or four chances within the first ten minutes, so even when we aren’t at our best, we are still creating a lot of chances. I thought within the second half, the game became a lot more stretched, we moved the ball more and made better forward runs, with some very good goals.”
Derby County will enter the fixture with a determination to retain their recent victories over Nottingham Forest. Last season, the Ewes took four points from the Red, after an impressive 2-1 victory at the City Ground, before delivering a 1-1 draw on home turf.
Looking ahead to this weekend, Davies said: “We are looking forward to it. I think we need some payback after last season, I think those two fixtures certainly haunt me! The performances were there, but we weren’t clinical in goal, so that’ll be something that we will be looking to rectify. A derby game is always a brilliant one to play in. We will be looking forward to what will be a good game of football.”
Adult tickets for tomorrow’s game at the Don Amott Arena cost £6, whilst concessions and child tickets are £3.
