Arsenal Secure Place Within Subway League Cup Semi Finals.

The Subway Women’s League Cup is back, and Brighton hosted current holders

Arsenal in the quarter finals at Broadfield stadium.

Arsenal automatically progressed through to the last 16, as they competed in the Champions League. They have won this cup two years in a row, beating Chelsea both times, and look to make it three this year. Brighton looked to stop them, as they are in good form, sitting fifth in the league and securing their spot at the top of group D with a 6-2 win over Bristol City.

First half:

The game began at 7:15pm (GMT), and Brighton kicked off proceedings. Arsenal started off strongly, as they were out on the attack, and were dominating the possession.

In the 8th minute, there was a stoppage in play, as Arsenal's Rosa Kafaji was caught in the face and required treatment. Three minutes later, she was deemed fit to continue, and Arsenal had a good chance to score, before Alessia Russo shot wide of the goal.

Brighton's Kiko Sieke was causing Arsenal some problems down the left, as her combination of play with Poppy Pattinson proved dangerous.

Despite Brighton giving the ball away in dangerous areas, Arsenal were poor when trying to take advantage, as their shots were either wide or straight into the arms of Melina Loeck.

In the 34th minute, Arsenal had a strong chance to take the lead. Katie McCabe played a lovely ball into the box, which found Alessia Russo. Russo met with the ball and tried to head it into the back of the net, but instead, the ball landed securely in the arms of Loeck once again.

In the 47th minute of the game, Arsenal were forced into making their first substitution as Lia Walti picked up a knock. With Kim Little coming on to replace her, Arsenal looked lively once again, but the half ended goalless.

Arsenal were dominant throughout, and have had the best chances. They should be leading but have been poor within the final third. Brighton's defence remained strong, making it hard for the Gunners to put themselves ahead.

HALF TIME: 0-0

After the break, Arsenal were once again dominating the ball, passing it around with ease.

Both sides made changes, with Arsenal bringing on Emily Fox and Mariona Caldentey in the place of Beth Mead and Katie Reid. Brighton made a triple substitution, as Maisie Symonds, Jorelyn Carabali and Nikita Parris came on for Jelena Canvokic, Bruna Vilamala, and Maria Thorisdottir.

These changes made an instant impact for Arsenal, as a few minutes later, Mariona Caldentey hit the woodwork.

In the 65th minute, Arsenal took the lead through Frida Maanum. Caldentey intercepted Loeck's goalkick and found Maanum, who squashed the ball into the goal.

Three minutes later, Arsenal doubled their lead. Alessia Russo squared the ball to McCabe in the box, and she finished it off, giving the Gunners a 2-goal lead.

In the 70th minute, Arsenal scored again. Kyra Cooney-Cross got the ball and smashed it into the top corner.

The Gunners continued to create chances and in the 83rd minute, scored their fourth goal of the game. Loeck saved a deflected shot, but she parried it into the path of Caldentey, who slotted the ball into the back of the net.

Arsenal book their place in the semi-finals, after a phenomenal second half

performance. They destroyed and dominated Brighton in the second half, scoring four goals in the matter of eighteen minutes. Mariona Caldentey came on and changed the game immediately.
