UEFA have pledged that over the next 6 years €1B will be used towards investment in the development of women’s football and competition revenue. This was stated on Wednesday 30th October by European Footballers governing body.
Aleksander Čeferin, the UEFA president has stated: “Unstoppable is our road map to lay the groundwork for a sustainable future”. They explained 4 main long-term goals:
UEFA wants to have 5000 professional players and also 6 professional leagues by 2030. This will definitely result in growth within youth football, academy’s and grassroots, creating more opportunities for full time jobs within women’s football, which is their second goal, making women’s football the most played team sport in every European country.
Sustainability and making the women’s sport investable is also an objective, with them wanting to make record breaking competitions. Inclusivity and celebration of its unique values which is something they want to continue.
Many top women’s football players have shown their support for this including Aitana Bonmati (Barcelona), Giulia Gwinn (Bayern), Ada Hegerberg (Lyon) and Lauren James (Chelsea).
