Tottenham Hotspur vs Liverpool - Match Report

We are back in Barclays WSL action for game week three, with Tottenham facing Liverpool. Liverpool is yet to secure a victory in the current WSL season, with Tottenham gaining a 4-0 win in game week one against newly promoted Crystal Palace.  


This will be the seventh time the sides have faced each other, with Tottenham winning three, drawing twice and losing once.  


Liverpool is currently without a reserve goalkeeper with Australian international, Teagan Micah out with an injury and the club have failed to sign another goalkeeper on emergency loan.  

 

We start the first half with Liverpool taking the first kick of the game. 

Liverpool’s number 11, Olivia Smith takes a shot on goal but just misses and the ball glides past the crossbar resulting in a Tottenham goal kick. 


Liverpool’s Cornelia Kapocs starts the goalscoring in the tenth minute with a right footed shot from outside the box and buries it into the bottom right corner, past goalkeeper, Becky Spencer. 


Sofie Lundgaard took a right footed shot to attempt to double the advantage 3 minutes after the first goal but misses to the left.


Olivia Smith takes an attempt on goal with a right footed shot but misses to the left, with an assist from Lucy Parry in the 27th minute. 


Liverpool’s number 11 takes another attempt on goal in the 40th minute with a left footed shot from outside the box but is saved in the centre of the goal.


Tottenham’s Amanda Nildén attempts to draw the sides equal with a left footed shot from outside the box and misses to the right, resulting in a corner for Liverpool in the last minute of extra time 

 

Half Time – Liverpool 1-0 Tottenham  

 

We start the second half with Tottenham taking the first kick of the half. 


Taylor Hinds scores an own goal which draws the sides equal in the 54th minute.


Olivia Smith makes an attempt to double Liverpool’s goals but is denied by Becky Spencer in the centre of the goal. 


Tottenham gain a free kick through a foul on Hayley Raso just outside the box, Drew Spence takes the free kick and attempts to take a shot, but it goes too far over and glides over the goal.  


Liverpool manages to double their advantage from a direct right footed free kick shot from Höbinger in the 75th minute just outside the box.


Jessica Naz attempts to gain an equaliser for the Lily Whites but is denied by Rachel Laws and deflected away.  


Tottenham manage to gain an equaliser from a shot from Australian international, Clare Hunt with a left footed shot, buried into the bottom right corner, assisted by Ashleigh Neville in the 83rd minute. 


Hayley Raso attempts to gain an advantage over Liverpool with a right footed shot from outside the box following a corner.  


Liverpool regains their advantage over Tottenham with a penalty taken by Höbinger and buried into the bottom left corner just past Spencer in the 95th minute. Penalty was gained after a foul by Ashleigh Neville.  

 

Liverpool gains their first victory of the WSL season with a 3-2 win over Tottenham Hotspur at Brisbane Road, remaining unbeaten in the league so far.
