Nottingham Forest Women vs Halifax FC

Updated: Oct 7, 2024

Sunday afternoon marks the return of Nottingham Forest to the City Ground in the seventh week of the FA Women’s National League.

Nottingham Forest, under the guidance of Carly Guidance, have established themselves as one of the league’s premier teams, whilst Halifax FC continue their journey of growth and development in the league.

For their latest outing, Nottingham Forest travelled to Cheadle to take on the Cheadle Town Stingers in the second round of the League Cup. A clinical performance from both sides provided fans with an array of talent on display, but it wasn’t until substitute Sophie Domingo made an appearance that the Reds were able to break the deadlock. A stunning strike from Domingo saw Nottingham Forest lead with a goal advantage.

When reflecting on last weekend’s performance, Carly Davies said: “It’s been a tough seven days, three games, all of which were away. We’ve seen a bit of a tired performance today. I tried to keep things as fresh as I could, rotating players in and out. The positive thing is we got the win and we progress to the next round.”

Halifax FC also secured three points, as they hosted Notts County in the FA Women’s National League Plate. Goals from Chantelle Gallagher and Minnie Wilson set Rob Mitchell’s side apart from the opposition.

The most recent meeting between the two sides occurred in April when they faced each other in the final weeks of the 2023/24 season. Freya Thomas put Forest ahead, chipping the ball over the keeper, but a penalty for Halifax saw them equalise. Meg Boydell later found the back of the net, scoring the winning goal for Halifax FC.

“For us this weekend, we just want to get back to basics, do the simple things well, and hopefully put on a good performance.” said Davies.

“Halifax haven’t had the run I think they’d have liked to have had this season, but when teams come and play here, it’s a big occasion for them and our own players. Often they up their game, so we will show them the respect we do with everybody, but as always, we will try and play our own football.”

Adult tickets for tomorrow’s game at the City Ground cost £10, whilst concessions are £8. Entry for under-13s costs £6.
