Leading up to Chelsea’s match against Manchester United, manager Sonia Bompastor attended a pre match press conference to discuss the upcoming game.
Manchester United are one of the teams, much like Chelsea, that are unbeaten so far in the Women’s Super League (WSL) season, When asked how Chelsea plan to break Manchester United’s unbeaten record in the league, Bompastor stated, “Every team has their threats and their weaknesses. As a manager we always analyse the best way to position ourselves and how to enter the game in the best way. I think the gameplan is already prepared and we have worked this morning, and we will work tomorrow in training sessions, so the players know exactly what they need to do.”
English left back Niamh Charles has recently been injured, suffering with a dislocated shoulder, resulting in her not appearing in the matchday squad. When questioned about the recovery and any potential sighting in the matchday squad on Sunday, Sonia answered: “Niamh is in a good place, she will still unfortunately be short for the game on Sunday, but she’s doing well, and we expect to have her with the squad after the international break and being available for the games. Everyone else is available for the game.”
Chelsea are yet to drop any points so far in the league, which could pose as a threat for the manager as players could become over confident or loose motivation within games. When asked how she prevents this issue from arising, Bompastor stated “I’m lucky enough to work in an environment where the players are all professional, they are all at high standards so its not a hard job for me to motivate them or make sure they just have the right mentality. I think as professionals and competitive players, they have the right mentality”
Sonia Bompastor speaks extremely highly of her players so far since her appointment as manager at the start of the current season. “We have a lot of quality and talents within the team, I’m really happy with my players, every time they step on the field for games or training sessions, they are really motivating and have the right mentality”
