Sam Kerr's Olympic dream has ended in shatters after she is ruled out from competing in the Paris 2024 Olympics.

The 30-year-old striker tore her Anterior Cruciate Ligament [ACL] whilst on a warm-weather training camp in January with her club team, Chelsea.

In a statement provided by the Australian FA, it was announced that:

"Attacker Amy Sayer (ACL) and forward Sam Kerr (ACL) remain on the sidelines with long term injuries. Kerr and Sayer will continue their rehabilitation programmes in their home club environments and subsequently will not be available for selection for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.”

The Matilda's have had an injury-ridden run up to the Olympics, with many of their key players being side-lined.

West Ham midfielder Katrina Gorry has recently undergone ankle surgery, and Aivi Luik has suffered a hamstring injury - however, Tony Gustavsson has said that they will "most likely be physically available to be part of on Olympic roster."

Kerr has been nicknamed Australia's star-striker after she became Australia's all-time goal scorer, netting 64 goals in a Tillies jersey.

Since signing for the Blues in 2019, Kerr has played a vital role in helping Chelsea attain 5 successive WSL titles, 3 FA Cup trophies and 2 League Cup victories.

However, things have not been smooth sailing for Kerr recently. She was benched for the start of the FIFA Women's World Cup due to an injury, and has been charged with racially aggravated harassment of a London police officer, to which she has pleaded not guilty.

Australia are set to face Germany in Marseille for their opening match of the Olympics on July 25. They also face Zambia (July 28) and the United States (July 31) in their group.
