Missy Bo Kearns makes a shock transfer to Aston Villa.

Aston Villa have confirmed the signing of former Liverpool midfielder Missy Bo Kearns.

After spending most of her career with the Reds, Missy Bo has put pen to paper on a three-year contract in the West Midlands for an undisclosed fee.

She joined Liverpool’s academy at the age of eight and has worked her way through the ranks before making her senior debut in March 2019.

The 23-year-old went on to make more than 100 appearances for Liverpool and had the opportunity to don the captain’s armband on multiple occasions, making her the youngest captain for the team.

However, after recently making her senior debut for the Lionesses, the midfielder is in search for a club that will provide her with a generous number of minutes to ensure her position with England is secured.

During the 2023/24 season with Liverpool, Kearns’ made only nine WSL starts, a significant decrease from the 17 starts made in the season before.

This is due to the clash of playing styles between Missy and Matt Beard, as well as the strengthening of the squad with players such as Fuka Nagano, Marie Hobinger and Sofie Lundgaard.

When speaking on the departure of Missy, Matt Beard said: “We respect Missy Bo’s decision and she departs with our very best wishes and, I’m sure, those of our fans.

“She has worn the shirt with the pride of a local girl and I have enjoyed my time working with her over so many years.

“I will follow her future development with great interest and pride.”

The box-to-box midfielder has several strengths that will benefit Villa, her technicality and accuracy being one of them.

Villa Manager Robert de Pauw said: “Missy Bo is a great asset for our team.

“She is a good player and has the potential to be a future leader.

“We are happy to have her in our squad. I see Missy as a dynamic, box-to-box midfielder.

“She is a good passer and also knows where to find the goal.

“Missy Bo has the potential and ability to become a regular England international."
