Matt Beard Steps Down as Liverpool Manager

Liverpool FC have announced that Matt Beard has stepped down from his role as Liverpool Manager.

Initially Beard became manager of LFC women in 2012 and after a season at the club won back-to-back WSL titles in 2013 and 2014, resulting in Liverpool women’s first champions league run. In 2015 Matt departed the club for the first time, after a disappointing season finishing 7th in the table.

Matt went on to manage Boston Breakers, West ham United women and Bristol City women before returning to Liverpool in May 2021. While Beard was gone, Liverpool struggled and after a disappointing 2019-2020 start to the season, they ended up relegated into the women’s Championship.

In Beards first season back, Liverpool got promoted back into the WSL and continued to push for trophies. Last season Liverpool broke into the top 4, however this season they are currently in 7th with the team struggling. Partly because of injury and losing many players over the summer transfer window.

Liverpool's statement says, “We have all experienced some fantastic moments with Matt as manager of LFC Women and we express our gratitude for his significant contribution.”

“The search for a new manager of LFC Women is under way, with Amber Whiteley stepping in to the interim LFC Women’s manager role with immediate effect.”
