Manchester United Paint the City Red After Derby Day Victory.

For the first time ever, Manchester United have won away against Manchester City in the Manchester Derby. Ella Toone silenced the fans in the Etihad Stadium with a hat-trick, and despite City’s best attempts to comeback, Manchester was painted red.

Ella Toone opened up this evening’s Manchester Derby score line with a powerful strike on goal in the 14th minute, which resulted in United taking a 1-0 lead.

There action didn't slow down for Manchester United as Galton furthered their lead only seven minutes later. This was a controversial goal, with some arguing offside, however with no VAR, the score line remained 2-0 in Manchester United’s favour.

Despite Manchester City’s stronger play, another defensive error at the back for Manchester City, results in Manchester United’s third of the evening, and Ella Toone’s second.

Manchester City’s first chance of the first half was carried down the right wing by Fujino, and a shot on goal was deflected by Gabby George, resulting in City’s first corner of the match.

Vivianne Miedema was able to get City a goal back just five minutes before the end of the first half. Mary Fowler’s ball was met by the head of Miedema and strongly slotted into the back of the net.

As momentum built, new recruit Rebecca Knaak, was able to spin away from Janssen, and her powerful header was slotted into the back of the next straight past Tullis-Joyce, meaning Manchester City were left only one goal behind the visitors at half-time.

Half Time: Manchester City 2-3 Manchester United

Ella Toone widened the gap between the two sides only seconds into the second half, adding another one to their total. A mistake from Keating at the back, resulted in Toone’s hat-trick for the evening. A fourth goal for Manchester United had certainly knocked Khiara Keating’s confidence.

Despite the scoreline, Manchester City’s chances kept coming throughout the second half, however Manchester City could not get past Tullis-Joyce.

Both sides made multiple substitutes, with Manchester City hoping to get back into the game, or at least lower Manchester United’s advantage whilst Manchester United tried to keep their lead.

6 minutes of added time was announced at the end of normal time. However, despite the additional time, Manchester City were unable to make their mark in the second half, which led to a huge victory for Manchester United.
