Tottenham hosted Leicester City at Brisbane Road in the first Women’s Super
League clash for 2025, with the Lilywhites claiming all three points with a
narrow 1-0 victory over the Foxes.

Just four minutes in was when the only goal of the game came. Following some
lovely footwork from Maite Oroz, Amanda Nilden was played through on the left hand
side of the box. Her cross was then turned in by Foxes’ Keeper, Janina Leitzig.
Leicester, however, responded well after this goal and arguably had the better
chances for the rest of the half, with Janice Cayman’s opportunity being a standout
where she squandered a crucial chance. The ball was squared to her by Saori
Takarada as the Belgian international was left unmarked on the edge of the six yard
box, but her effort was fired wide of the post.
In the 35th minute, a great run of play from Drew Spence set up Hayley Raso nicely
but former Lilywhite Asmita Ale was able to block this chance.
17-year-old Nelly Las was also a danger to the hosts down the right on a number of
occasions. On the cusp of the break, one of these chances led to the ball falling into
the path of Missy Goodwin but teamwork from both Ashleigh Neville and Molly
Bartrip made sure the chance was not converted and allowed Spurs to head into half
time in the lead
Half-Time: Tottenham Hotspur 1-0 Leicester City
Within the opening five minutes of the second half, Maite Oroz made way for Martha
Thomas, with the latter making an instant impact. Very soon after entering the pitch,
her cross from the left forced Leitzig to push the ball away.
Down the other end of the pitch, Lize Kop kept her cool and easily collected
Goodwin’s calm shot.
Ruby Mace sent a low but powerful shot just wide of the target as the visitors
continued to push for an equalizer as the game grew closer to an end.
The Lilywhites were then so close to doubling their lead in the dying minutes of the
game. A strike from a distance from Tottenham’s Captain, Bethany England, struck
the underside of the cross bar but somehow didn’t cross the line. Leitzig was then
able to eventually clear the ball.
Despite an additional nine minutes at the end of the half, Spurs remained strong and
sharp in their defensive department to claim all three points in their first WSL game
of 2025.
