Maya Le Tissier has been named as the new Manchester United Captain, with Ella Toone as her vice, ahead of the 2024/25 season.
Ex-Captain Zelem moved to America to join NWSL side Angel City upon the expiration of her contract with United.
This meant United were left with the task of naming Zelem's successor.
It has been revealed 22 year old Maya Le Tissier has taken up the mantle, with Ella Toone becoming the vice captain.
Maya Le Tissier has had a great season, gaining international call-ups for England, winning Manchester United's first piece of silverware, the FA Cup, all whilst still holding the title for Manchester United's youngest Captain when covering for Zelem.
Maya Le Tissier was one of the few players to play every minute this season in the WSL 1980 minutes, 22 games, 2 goals and one assist.
The 2 goals she scored came at crucial games, with one being an equaliser against Leicester and another last minute equaliser against Tottenham.
Since the 21/22 seasons Maya Le Tissier has started every game in the WSL, she has been a vital part on the Manchester United back line and will need to step up even more with goalkeeper Mary Earps departure at the end of the season.
In a interview with Manchester United Maya Le Tissier said : “It’s an honour to be named captain of this great football club and I will wear the armband with real pride, to help drive this team to success on and off the field.”
With a lot of weight on her shoulders Manchester United fans will be hoping to see the defender flourish.
