Tuesday 17th December marks the day Leyton Orient Women are set to play a fixture at Brisbane Road, the home of the East London side, for the first time this season. The 7th tier side are set to take on Tier 5 side, Haringey Borough, in the Combined Counties Cup for a 7:30pm kick off in E10.

Leyton Orient Women were established in 2021 ahead of the 2021/22 season with the aim of paving a better way for girls in the future by setting up an academy system alongside the first team. In their very first season as a side, the O’s achieved third place in the table but still gained a promotion to the Greater London Women’s Football League Division One North.
This victory carried over to the 2022/23 season, where Orient completed the season invincible with plenty of highly convincing wins. This success in turn led them to achieving their second successive promotion, winning the league with two games left to play and 10 points clear of those below them in the table.
With the growth of Women’s Football in recent years, especially after the Lionesses’ victory in the 2022 Women’s Euro’s, attendances are continuing to grow and many teams are beginning to play more games at the club’s main stadium, such as Arsenal Women and Aston Villa Women playing the majority of their home games at the Emirates Stadium and Villa Park respectively.
Alongside the investment from McCaffrey Football Group, it was announced Leyton Orient Women will be playing 5 fixtures a season at Brisbane Road, also now known as Gaughan Group Stadium, with the number increasing by one every year. This opportunity gives the team their chance to shine on a bigger stage as well as increased visibility.
In an interview at the men’s teams’ Brisbane Road stadium last season, captain Grace Alexander stated, “Hopefully we can grow in the next ten years and potentially even be playing WSL, Championship football.” With the way Leyton Orient WFC have kicked off their first few campaigns, this dream is not impossible with the skill and ability this group of gifted players have.
After their huge 10-0 win over Camden and Islington on Sunday, the O’s will want to continue with their great form to earn their spot in the third round of the Combined Counties Cup.
For spectators wanting to attend the match, they can do so with free entry as well as a free drink provided.
This chance for Orient Women to play at Brisbane Road is a great opportunity for both fans and players, representing exactly just how far women’s football has come over the past few years.
