Chelsea return to Kingsmeadow this Sunday where they will take on London Rivals
Spurs in the Women’s Super League for a 18:45 kick off in West London, creating an
exciting clash.
At the end of last season, Chelsea were crowned WSL Champions for the fifth consecutive
year at the end of Emma Hayes’ time in charge of the Blues, before Sonia Bompastor’s
takeover.
Spurs finished their campaign in 6th place in the league, a significant improvement from 9th
in the season prior. The Lilywhites also had a highly successful run in the Adobe Women’s
FA Cup, where they reached the final for the first time in their history. However, they fell
short at this stage to Manchester United, but had a great campaign in this competition
nonetheless.
In three games this season, Chelsea collected all 9 points and have scored 10 goals with
conceding just one, which came against Arsenal. A dominant second half performance over
Crystal Palace has significantly boosted their goal difference which may prove crucial in
determining league places come the end of the season, with the Blues winning the league
solely on goal difference last season.
So far this campaign, Tottenham have secured 4 points in 4, with a win over Crystal Palace
and a draw facing Aston Villa. The Lilywhites narrowly lost out on a point against Liverpool
from conceding a last minute penalty.
In their clashes last season, Chelsea took the victory both times with a one goal difference.
Martha Thomas was the only goal scorer for Spurs in these two games with 3 different
scores in these two games for the West London side: Maika Hamano, Mia Fishel and Lauren
James.
Whilst the home side might be the favourites to win this game, the Lilywhites have shown
some impressive performances recently, so this upcoming game will be an exciting watch.
