36 minutes into Angel City FC’s game against Racing Louisville on June 11 2022, Christen Press scored an equalising goal. 47 minutes in, she assisted the team's second goal. Just 19 minutes later, she was put on the season ending injury (SEI) list with a torn ACL.
On June 11 2024, exactly two years after her injury, Press made her return to full team training.
781 days later on July 31 2024, the club announced that she was being taken off the season ending injury list, hopeful to play their next game against San Diego Wave FC in the NWSL x Liga MX Femenil Summer Cup on Thursday August 1st.
The USWNT player had made 8 appearances for Angel City prior to her injury, after leaving Manchester United at the end of the 20/21 season. She signed a two year contract with an optional third year, reportedly worth $700k, making her one of the highest paid players in NWSL history.
Press appeared on Angel City FC’s team sheet as a substitute, before making an appearance in the 89th minute. It is her first time playing an eleven a side professional match in over 2 years. The game went to a penalty shootout, where she scored the second goal for Angel City.
