We are back in the Women’s Super League (WSL) action with Tottenham vs Arsenal for game week eight, with the first North London Derby of the season.
This game is the first of the hattrick of games Spurs will play at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
The North London derby between Tottenham and Arsenal is one of many iconic London derbies over the leagues. This will be the thirteenth time the sides will face each other, with Arsenal winning nine, drawing twice and loosing once. The loss came last season at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium where the Lilywhites gained a 1-0 win over the Gunners via a goal by number 17, Martha Thomas.
Arsenal starts the game with an early left footed goal in the first minute from number 23, Alessia Russo with a cross in from Mariona Caldentey and slotted into the net straight past Tottenham keeper, Becky Spencer into the bottom corner.
Arsenal is awarded a corner in the sixth minute, conceded by Amanda Nildén but fail to convert from it.
Caitlin Foord makes an attempt to double Arsenal’s advantage but gets blocked Arsenal doubles their lead via a right footed shot from Frida Maanum from the centre of the box in the twenty second minute with an assist from captain Kim Little.
Arsenal is awarded another corner in the thirtieth minute, conceded by Luana Bühler but fail to increase their advantage.
Tottenham makes an attempt to gain a goal back with a right footed shot from captain,
Bethany England but the shot goes just over the crossbar which awards Arsenal a goal
kick.
Jessica Naz takes another attempt on goal but the shot lands straight in the hands of
Arsenal keeper, Daphne Van Domselaar.
Arsenal is awarded a free kick from a hand ball by Drew Spence just outside the box, crossed into Mariona Caldentey but is saved by Becky Spencer in the centre of the goal.
Tottenham gains a corner in the forty eighth minute which is crossed into the centre with
Amanda Nildén just outside the box, but her shot is just too high and wide to the right.

Hayley Raso gives away a free kick just outside the box, taken by Katie McCabe but her right footed shot goes straight into the hands of Spencer.
Russo makes a cross into Caitlin Foord who makes an attempt on goal, but her shot goes just off to the right.
Blackstenius attempts to gain arsenal a third with her first kick since being substituted on, but her shot goes just over the crossbar.
Tottenham concede a third from a goal by Stina Blackstenius with a right footed shot
from the centre of the box to the bottom right corner in the sixty sixth minute with an assist from Mariona Caldentey.
Evelina Summanen takes a free kick which she crosses into the box onto Drew Spence’s foot, but the shot is saved by Van Domselaar in the centre of the goal.
Cooney Cross makes an attempt to give the gunners a fourth with a right footed shot from a cross in from Maanum but is unsuccessful as the ball is stopped by Becky Spencer.
Cooney Cross wins a free kick on the halfway line which is taken by Leah Williamson but ends in a throw in for the Gunners, taken by Steph Catley.
Arsenal push for a fourth just as the ninety minutes closes out but are unsuccessful in their attempts.
Frida Maanum makes another attempt to get a fourth goal just before the whistle is blown with a left footed shot but is high and wide to the left.
The first North London derby of the season is the third big win in a row for Arsenal with interim manager Renée Slegers in charge, with a 5-0 win over Brighton and Hove Albion in game week seven and a 4-0 win over Juventus in the Champions League mid-week.
