The 19th October was the day Manchester United loose their clean sheet. They were took on by Brighton and hove Albion away at the American Express Stadium.
Kickoff has approached with former red Nikita Parris taking the first kick of the ball. From the first kick of the ball United were showing to be dominant but 4 minutes in Brighton have an opportunity. Unfortunately United defender Gabby George gets in the way hot and passes back to Phallon Tullis-Joyce. The ball makes its way back towards Brighton’s end, with Hinata Miyazawa taking a shot. Unfortunately the shot is saved by Baggerly. United win a corner 6 minutes in, but unfortunately no goal came from it.
Brighton win a free kick after a clash between Turner and Parris, however the ball made its way back to united. With Celin Bizet Ildhusøy running down the wing she sends a cross into the box. Grace Clinton recieved the cross and the score became 1-0 to United. The goal for United game in the 10th minute with a brilliant right footed goal from Clinton. United keep making cross ins however they were unsuccessful with a shot from former seagull, Elizabeth Terland being blocked. In the 13th minute, a strike from Clinton hits the crossbar with Miyazawa on the rebound with the shot turned away by Baggers. United continued to show lovely passing down the left hand side but was seen out by Brighton.
In the 18th minute Nikita Parris receives the ball. She drives forward beating three united players but unfortunately has to pass back as her only option. Jansen picks up the ball for United, but is fouled by ex red Maria Thorisdottir who then receives the first yellow of the game. Both teams were showing great ball play with many free kicks and throw-ins taking place until the next opportunity came for united with a shot from Miyazawa being deflected. The next shot to come was for Brighton with both shorts being turned away my Turner. United missed another shot in the 37th minute when Clinton missed a cross in from Terland. Not long after a Brighton player goes down. Whilst she seeks medical attention, both teams gather in groups. Parris can be seen talking to her teammates, particularly the defenders about a game plan. Pauline Bremer is then substituted off, with Madison Haley replacing her.
Not long after being subbed on, Haley goes in for a shot however it goes wide. Brighton then win a corner with the shot getting punched away by Phallon in the 45th minute. The fourth official then indicates an additional 3 minutes for the first half. With the first half ending with a United shot being blocked.
HALF TIME 1-0 UNITED
Second half commences, with Brighton making two substitutions. United take an early shot with it being on target but blocked by Baggerly. It then turns in the opposite direction with Brighton taking a shot, it’s missed but the ball finds its way back to Nikita Parris who heads the ball straight into the net. Nikita Parris makes the score 1-1 with Phallon loosing her clean sheet. Brighton proceed to make long balls forwards and luckily United captain Le Tissier defends well and stops the run. Brighton win a corner however it’s saved by Phallon. In the 69th minute Clinton receives yellow card over a foul.
As the clock hits the 73rd minute Skinner makes his first substitutions with Aoife Mannion replaying Hinata Miyazawa and Simi Awujo replacing Lisa Naalsund. In the 80th minute, a cross comes in for united however baggerly saved whilst colliding with Terland. With both players down, Terland up first, Brighton announced their player of the match, Nikita Parris. Mannion then goes in for a tackle, but recieved a yellow card for a foul.
Substitution for united during the 90th minute, Rachel Williams for Ella Toone. After united win two corners, the fourth official allocates a minimum of 5 minutes additional time. During extra time Pattinson receives a yellow, giving United another opportunity for a goal. Clinton takes the free kick however it is cleared. The full time whistle was called with the game finishing 1-1 with an early goal from Clinton and a second half header from Parris.
