Everton have confirmed that midfielder, Aurora Galli, has ruptured her ACL.
The 27-year-old Italian midfielder sustained this injury in the opening weekend of the Women’s Super League.
Since joining Everton in 2021 and becoming the first Italian player to join the WSL, Galli has made 51 appearances for the club and has been a crucial part of Everton midfield.
Last season for Everton Galli made 19 appearances and scored 3 goals and 2 assists, her best season with the club.
As soon as Galli went down it did not look good at all, and scans revealed the bad news and she will be recovering rehabilitation at Finch Farm under the care of Everton's medical team.
Although this story is tragic, it is not a surprise with the continuing demands of the game growing every season and more games being played for national teams and higher standards , it begs the question , what are the plans going forward to look into prevention of ACL injuries? And what is the best solution For recovery and rehabilitation. Every year there are ACL injuries and it has become the norm for the women’s game. At the moment, all we can do is wish Aurora Galli a speedy recovery and hope that in the future there won’t be as many ACL with the correct research strategies put in place , to try and avoid ACL injuries.
