On Sunday afternoon, Aston Villa, currently in 10th place, will be seeking their first win of the
season as they host 6th-place Liverpool at Villa Park in Game Week 6 of the Women’s
Super League (WSL). Liverpool, meanwhile, will be looking for their second victory to add to
their tally.
Aston Villa have only managed to obtain 2 points from a possible 15 so far, with both points
coming from draws in their two home fixtures: a 2-2 draw against Tottenham and a goalless
draw against their Midlands rivals. Manager Robert De Pauw is still searching for his first
victory in charge.
In their opening match of the season, Villa narrowly lost 1-0 away against Chelsea, with
Rytting-Kaneryd scoring a first-half goal that secured the win for the home team. Their last game before the international break also ended in defeat away at Joie Stadium, where Gabi Nunes put Manchester City ahead with a goal after 20 minutes, followed by two second-half goals from Lauren Hemp and Jill Roord.
Liverpool's season began with a home match against Leicester City at St Helens Stadium,
which ended in a 1-1 draw. Roman Haug scored for Liverpool in the final moments of the
first half, but Leicester equalized through Rantala in the 53rd minute. In their last game of the
previous block, Liverpool also drew 1-1 at home against Crystal Palace, with goals from
Cornelia Kapocs for Liverpool and Katie Stengel for the visitors.
The most recent encounter between the two teams took place in March, where Villa suffered
a 4-1 defeat. Liverpool's strong performance featured a brace from Emma Koivisto, with
Grace Fisk and Sophie Roman Haug each adding one. Villa's only goal was scored by
fullback Sarah Mayling.
Tickets for the match will cost £14.50 for adults, £11 for under 18s, and £7 for under 14s.
The game will be available to watch at 16:30 (BST) on the Women’s Super League YouTube
channel.
