Arsenal have triggered the release clause for Dutch goalkeeper, Daphne Van Domselaar and have signed her on a permanent deal.
The 24-year-old joins the Gunners after departing her previous club, Aston Villa, where she made 15 appearances for the team in her first season in the Women’s Super League.
Van Domselaar is one of the most-highly rated goalkeepers within the women’s game but will now compete with Arsenal’s current number one, Manuela Zinsberger for the starting position.
After starting her career at youth level with LSVV and Telstar, she then went on to make her professional debut in 2017 with FC Twente.
Her career began to take off and she made 106 appearances donning the Twente shirt, won three league titles and a further five domestic trophies across her six-year stint with the club.
The goalkeeper has also had an impressive start to her international career after making her Netherlands debut in 2022. She has since gone on to receive 27 caps and has represented her country in two major tournaments – the UEFA European Women’s Championship in 2022 and the FIFA Women’s World Cup in 2023.
Van Domselaar is Arsenal’s second signing of the season after they recently signed Spanish International Mariona Caldentey.
“I’m really happy to be here,” said Daphne.
“If you look at Arsenal – the players, the team, the stadium – it’s a huge club and I’m so excited to be part of this club.
“I want to win trophies and achieve big things, and Arsenal is the right place for me to do both.
“I can’t wait to play at Emirates Stadium in front of all the supporters and show what I can do.”
When reflecting on the club’s newest signing, head coach Jonas Eidevall said: “We’re delighted to bring Daphne to the club.
“She is a top goalkeeper and already has considerable experience on some of the biggest stages, while we believe she has a great deal of potential for future development, too.
“Daphne will further strengthen our goalkeeper unit alongside Manu and Naomi, and will be a strong addition to the team as we prepare for an important new season.”
