Southampton announce their sixth summer signing ahead of the upcoming season as midfielder Aimee Palmer.
The 24-year-old arrives at the club as a two-time Barclays Women’s Championship winner, as well as holding a range of experience in the top two tiers.
Palmer spent the past season at WSL side, Leicester City, after having helped Bristol City achieve promotion to the top flight in the 2022/23 season.
The midfielder began her career at the Robins, making her senior debut in 2017 within the WSL Spring Series. She made a total of 18 appearances that year before departing the club.
In 2018, she made the move to Manchester United’s recently created side.
During the 2018/19 season, she appeared 15 times for the club in the league winning season.
The next team in her career was a loan deal with Sheffield United before she returned to Bristol City, where her second Championship title was earned in 2023.
Upon her arrival, she told the Southampton “I'm really happy to be here and I can't wait to get the boots on and get started."
"Towards the end of the previous season I said to my agent, it's Southampton or no-one if I'm coming down [to the Championship]." she added, "it's been a club I've always admired how they play so I'm excited to get going."
Remi Allen, the Saints’ Head Coach, told the club her reasoning for signing Palmer, "I'm really pleased to welcome Aimee to the club and add her experience and quality to the group ahead of this season.”
"She's still young but she already knows exactly what it takes to win promotion from this league and survive in the WSL, which matches our ambition for the future of this club."
Southampton kick off the 2024/25 season on September 8th vs Bristol City, one of Aimee’s former clubs.
