Montserrat Tome’s top of the table Spanish side go head-to-head with the Colombian national team this Saturday to fight for a spot in the Semi-finals of the Olympic games. Here is everything you need to know:
Spain have had an undefeated Olympic run so far, their last result being a 2-0 win to Brazil. However, Columbia have had a rocky start with only winning one out of their three games with a 2-0 win over New Zealand.
This will be a first-time meeting for the two nations, so fans are interested to see what the score line will be.
Spain have started in a 4-1-2-3 formation for all their Olympic clashes so far, a predicted line-up seeing the likes of Ona Batlle and Laia Aleixandri featuring in the backline along with Cata Coll in goal. We could also see midfield maestros Alexia Putellas and Aitana Bonmati being paired up in midfield, who have been crucial players for the Spanish side with Putellas scoring late goals in the past two games.
Columbia have also been repetitive with their starting line-ups, frequently seeing Manuela Pavi alternating between a striker and right-wing position. However, players Yirleidis Quejada Minota, Linda Caicedo and Manuela Pavi, all earned themselves a yellow card in their previous match against Canada. This means if they are given another yellow card against Spain and go through to the Semi-finals, they will be suspended for that match. A predicted line up for Columbia sees the likes of Katherine Tapia in goal along with Manuela Vanegas and Jorelyn Carabali in defence. Real Madrid star Linda Caicedo is also highly expected to start up front.
The BBC is the main broadcaster for the Olympics within the United Kingdom, however not all events are streamed on this platform. Any remaining events will be televised on Eurosport.
Spain vs Columbia kicks off at 4pm [BST] on Saturday 03 August 2024.
