Christine Sinclair announces her retirement from football after a record breaking career.
During her time playing football, Sinclair, or Sinc as she’s commonly known, has played in Six world cups and four Olympics, and is one of a few players to score at five World Cup editions, alongside Marta.
In 331 international matches she scored 190 goals more than any man or woman in the history of the game.
During her career she’s played for FC Gold Pride, The Western New York Flash and NWSL side Portland thorns.
During her time with the thorns she has made 200 appearances and scored 70 goals.
During her career she was shortlisted for the woman’s player of the year seven times and yet never won. International rival, Megan Rapinoe said she was the “best player to never win the award.” It is such a shame the all time leading international scorer never received the correct recognition from FIFA World Player of the Year.
Sinclair is truly a player who has shaped the game, and has left the scene in a much better place then when she started, and even away from the game she is active in fundraising for research and treatment of Multiple Sclerosis (MS).
So from all of us , thank you Christine Sinclair, you have truly been inspiration to many girls world wide.
