Chelsea vs Brighton - Press Conference

Chelsea vs Brighton Press Conference

Ahead of Chelsea’s fixture against Brighton, Sonia Bompastor spoke on her current squad by giving us injury updates and the team's preparation after the international break. Here is what she had to say about it:

Sonia touched on injury concerns within the squad…

“We still have 2 training sessions before the game on Sunday, this morning and tomorrow morning. We still are assessing some players from the international. But almost all the squad should be available.”

Maika Hamano missed previous training sessions with general sickness however feels better now and is waiting to be cleared by medical staff. Lauren James is progressing and in a good position mentally, however we probably won't see her before the end of the year, she is back on the pitch now however cannot rush it. Before the international break, Niamh was ready to pay but Sonia didn't

want to take any risks and decided to use the extra two weeks to be certain she is recovered, she is completely fit now and will be in this weekends squad.

Following on from international break…

With Scotland not qualifying for the WEUROS in 2025, it is a tough time for Erin Cuthbert and the team and staff are supporting her through it. “We are here as a club but also as staff and a manager to support her. I think she has a lot of experience, of

course it’s normal for her to feel the disappointment from not qualifying but she's now back with us and she is a high level athlete.”

On the other hand, Aggie Beever-Jones received her first start for England. “I watched her game against Switzerland, I think it’s good for her to start a game with England. I speak a lot with Sarina and with all the

national team managers about my players and their players aswell. I think on Aggie we have a vision, Aggie has a lot of talent, she is still young. She needs to work on bits of things in the game. This is what we have been doing with her. Making sure when she

doesn’t sometimes start a game she keeps her confidence. But I think her performance against Switzerland was a good one to bring her confidence.”

Managing minutes and introducing younger players…

“As a manager I already have plans for the next 4 games, but you never know what will happen. So that's plan A and I also have plan B and C depending on how the games go and how we are performing. But in these 4 games, I think 4 games in 12 days, I will

have to rotate the squad again because we play games home and away and it’s important to involve everyone. It will be the opportunity again for the young players to be involved in the games, especially because some of them are performing and they are

really helping the team perform.”

Confidence within the team..

“As you go everyone wants to beat you, but I think the club is used to that. Of course for every game we want to have the mentality to win every game but we just make sure in every single game we have the good game plan and we just play the way we want.”

Winning the title?

Post match of Chelsea vs United Marc Skinner claimed that Chelsea have ran away with the title, Sonia responded with “It’s funny because as a Chelsea manager I don’t think that way. Of course it’s really comfortable to be 5 points ahead of everyone, but we still have many games to play. You know we want to be ambitious, we will have to play lots of competitions within the season.”
