Canada vs Germany battle in the Quarter-Finals.

Reigning Olympic champions Canada will take on Germany in the quarter finals of the Summer Olympics.

The teams have come head to head six times before, Germany taking 4 wins, Canada only taking 2. The match will take place at 6pm (BST) at Stade Orange Vélodrome, home of Olympique de Marseille, and will be streamed on Eurosport/Discovery+ in the UK.

Canada are currently undefeated in their 2024 Olympic campaign, however only racking up 3 points due to a 6 point deduction. Germany, however, suffered a 4-1 defeat to the USA in their second group stage match.

Both teams' captains will be looking to take home another gold medal for their countries, Germany’s Alexandra Popp winning in 2016, and Canada's newly appointed captain Jessie Fleming winning in 2020.

The Germans have appeared in 6 Olympics, winning 3 bronze and 1 gold medal so far. Canada has competed in 5 Olympics, taking home 2 bronze medals and winning the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

Canada have changed up their formations in all games so far. They started with 3-4-3 against New Zealand, switching to 5-3-2 against France, before switching back to a 3-4-3 to play Colombia. Their starting XI has been pretty similar throughout the games, with only notable changes being Awujo taking Julia Grosso’s place in midfield.

Germany on the other hand have kept a 4-4-2 in all three of their group stage games. They have kept almost the exact same lineup, the only changes being Schulze-Solano stepping in at centre-back for their 4-1 win over Zambia, and Linder dropping to the bench after their first game, being replaced by Rauch.
